Blue Island was settled in 1835 by accommodating Chicago travelers on the historic Vincennes Trail.  Many of our first settlers were general storekeepers, blacksmiths, lodge proprietors, blacksmiths and livestock trading, all centered on the town’s Market Day.

Settlers established breweries by the 1850’s and the Rock Island Railroad made Blue Island a transportation hub by the 1870’s.  Now a city with a rich history, Blue Island holds the record for the largest number of historic homes in the south suburbs.
